First Look - The Abstract Comes Together

If you've been following me on Facebook, you've seen a few image shots of me adding a layer to a painting, and discussing the difficulty in abstract art of deciding when a work is complete. I have created paintings with one, two, three, four, and sometimes more layers. It's finished when...it's finished! I look for the following things in my paintings: dynamic color movements, balance, a sense of space, a story, feeling or emotion that is clearly communicated, and the hardest thing to explain: that something special that elevates the work from ordinary to special (different/compelling/unique/attracting). If that is lacking, and everything else is there, then to me the painting is a disappointment and it gets recycled into something else.

So I'm excited to present a first look at my newest work, (which you may have seen in process on my Facebook page):

I'm having it framed. I'm tentatively titling it "Seated Figure". Let me know what you think in the comments!
