Ethereal, translucent blends of deepest orange, lightest browns, surrounded by swirls of blues and grays and blacks generate this abstract painting's quiet beauty. The title is drawn from the Song of Songs, a passionate "love story" within Jewish canonical literature and attributed to King Solomon. Viewed as both a poem celebrating romantic love and desire, as well as a metaphor for the love between God and the Jewish People, the Song of Songs creates a picture of the joy and pleasure that love conveys. The soft caress of color fields gently "embracing" each other, with the surrounding blues and grays enveloping the two colors within a protected space expresses the idea of love providing a world within which two selves join together and become one yet can remain separate.
"Draw me after you, let us run.
The king has brought me to his chamber.
Let us be glad and rejoice in you.
Let us extol your loving beyond wine.
Rightly do they love you."
